Of course, 60 fps would be nice, but a stable frame-rate beats wild ups and downs in my book.įar Cry Primal is a really unique game with way too much emphasis on gathering resources and rather limited melee combat.
FAR CRY PRIMAL PC CHANGE WEAPON 1080P
Wouldn't the literal translation into English not suffer from this? Did Ubisoft do it this way to make them sound more like stereotypical "cave men?" It rubs me the wrong way, though I doubt it will bother others as much as it did me.įor the most part, this is a game that runs quite well, at 1080p and a very steady 30 frames-per-second on PS4. And the subtitles are presented in a sort of stilted, broken English that you might expect from someone who doesn't speak English very well. (though the word for mammoth is apparently still mammoth.) Since we can't understand this fake language, we're given subtitles. The entire game is voiced in the language of the prehistoric Wenja, Udam, etc. Indeed, the only thing I can really place in the ugly bucket are the captions. I didn't encounter any major bugs or crashes, and the graphics look perfectly fine. Overall, this is a game that ran rather smoothly for me. Unfortunately, this is just (lots) more of the same we've seen in the past couple Far Cry games and it gets tedious very quickly. Or if there were more choices involved with building your settlement-a resource scarcity game of sorts-I could see it being very engaging. If there was less busy-work involved in this process, I could see it being a lot more fun. Gathering resources is necessary for everything from crafting and upgrades, to building up your village and its various huts. But more weapon variety, and the ability to dodge/parry/block would help tremendously.įor big fans of gathering resources and crafting, there's a great deal of that here as well. This being the Stone Age, I realize options are limited. Club and spear are simply not enough of an arsenal to keep close-quarters-combat engaging, especially since there aren't any defensive mechanics. Melee combat can be fun for a while, just like the bow is a great weapon in this game and previous ones, but there's simply not enough variety to keep it interesting for long. And if you want to just cheese a base invasion, simply hop on the back of a woolly mammoth: In its current state, however, it's a big letdown. It's a shame there aren't more controls available to keep your beast in stealth mode, because I could see this being really fun. Almost every base invasion devolves quickly into a brawl unless you leave your sidekick behind. With your tamed beast at your side, stealth will only get you so far. You'd think it would be just as fun, if not more so, in a game without guns, but unfortunately that's not the case. In Far Cry 4 you can even use wild elephants or bait-drawn predators to help clear out a base without alerting the enemy to your presence. Sneaking in and disarming the alarms, taking out enemies with stealth first, and only engaging in a gunfight if you screw up, all of this is a ton of fun. Taking over bases is one of the funnest things in other Far Cry games. Of course, this leaves us with quite a lot to talk about in the "Bad" category. Still, there's a ton of detail here, and everything from your beasts to the crazy NPC's to the thick forests looks great.
FAR CRY PRIMAL PC CHANGE WEAPON UPGRADE
I'm glad it's in Primal, though it's far too easy to upgrade your way out of it entirely.įinally, the graphics are very nice, even if the land of Oros is a bit generic. I recall playing the latest Tomb Raider game and thinking something like that should be in place because my goodness Lara looked cold. I also enjoy the cold system, which requires you to craft special winter clothing or warm up at fires or risk freezing to death. It's not in quite as many ways as Geralt's Witcher senses, but it's a very similar concept. Using special hunter vision you can see tracks and other special things that show up in red or yellow. Hunting actually reminds me a lot of The Witcher 3. Meanwhile, some of the missions-especially the great hunt missions-are a blast. Even just taming and collecting your menagerie of death is a lot of fun.Įxploring the world, taming wild animals, riding woolly mammoths, and bashing it out in bloody melee combat are the things that make Far Cry Primal a lot of fun. You tame a wide swath of different beasts and they help you fight and hunt, making you far more powerful than an average warrior. A lit club can serve as a torch or as a way to scare of wolves, and it inflicts fire damage if you land a strike on an enemy.īut the real magic comes into play in your role as Beast Master. You can throw "stinger bombs" that are basically beehive grenades. This lends some great variety to the series. In Far Cry Primal guns are out, and a new set of weapons and tools is at your disposal.
